I, a super fan of Korean Entertainment, keep myself updated to every news related to Korean Entertainment Industry. My obsession to Korean variety shows, music industry, and dramas lead me to what I am now. I am a huge fan of the world class Korean girl group So Nyuh Shi Dae (SNSD) or Girls' Generation in English. So, imagine.. your favorite girl group member will be having a filming of her upcoming movie and is going to be held in your city where you live. What would you feel? What if it will really happen?
One day, as I was checking my facebook, I came across a post about Korean stars coming to Davao. At first, I didn't really believe it since I convinced myself that this are just rumors spread by netizens (internet citizens). But after a while, I was shocked because the rumors were true and it was made official by DOT's Davao Region Director. So as a huge fan, I can't control my feelings and emotions, they just keep on bursting out. To soothe this emotion explosion, I activated my "stalker" mode and began my adventures. So, to my fellow fans, if you dare to second guess, you can rest, assured that they will really come.
They are going to shoot their film ''No Breathing'', which revolves around two national swimmers who fall for the same girl.
Positive:
Upon reading this article, there are certain things that I can relate to our economy which contributes positive effects on it. Firstly, the target is to increase the number of Korean arrivals, overall in the country. Through this movie shooting which are starred by famous actors, it is a way of advertising Davao City all over the world for its exquisite locations and landmarks suitable for film shootings, thus increasing the number of tourists visiting our country. Secondly, small-scale business enterprises, such as hotels and malls will receive more sales since their tourism products they offer will be sold. And because of this, these will generate extra tax revenues such as hotel revenues, which can be used by the government for future projects. Finally, tourism opens many job opportunities, such as jobs within the tourism industry, and temporary jobs such as retail and transportation.
Negative:
On the other hand, there are still negative economic impacts that are unavoidable. Due to the increase of number of tourists visiting the country, there is a chance that the general level of prices will increase. This is because the money generated by tourism sometimes, will deteriorate the purchasing power of money. Tourism can push up local property prices and the cost of goods and services. Moreover, some die hard fans who are workers/employees skip their works just to take the opportunity to have a glance of their Korean idols. This results to low productivity rate thus giving less output, or worst case scenario, this will lead to unemployment.
Recommendation:
As a citizen of Davao City, I highly recommend that the government will focus more on improving our tourism. We should aim to introduce Davao City as the next destinations not only for South Korean tourists. The target is to increase the number of Korean arrivals, overall in the country, the only way to do that is to introduce new destinations. Firstly, I recommend that airline companies will make direct flights from South Korea directly to Davao City. This is because Koreans know little about Davao. Next, we should improve our connectivity, our quality of services, and many other things. Lastly, I recommend that we should make a student exchange program with South Korea. Through this, we can advertise Davao City as the next tourist destination and we can let them taste the good quality of education brought by our outstanding universities here in our city. Hence, our city will receive good feedback dealing a huge impact in our tourism industry.
